Abstract

This session presents an eight point plan for surviving and thriving in one of the most complex jobs in higher education. Utilizing Buddha’s wisdom we will discuss a simple pathway for finding happiness and contentment amid the expectations of this difficult position.

    1. This session will involve the discussion of using the Buddha’s teaching as a model for working as a department chair.

    2. Participants will gain a working plan to address the imbalance that comes with the position of department chair.

    3. The session will give an eight-point plan, based on the practice of Buddhism, for removing imbalance and finding happiness as a department chair.

    4. Participants will engage the nonsectarian philosophy of Buddhist wisdom to examine methods on engagement as a department chair.
