  • The purpose of the session is to provide chairpersons and directors with advanced skills in increasing motivation for change, while avoiding increasing resistance to change from faculty and staff. These skills are part of Motivational Interviewing (Miller & Rollnick).

    Specifically:

    1. The participants will be able to demonstrate a new method of motivating their faculty and staff.
    2. The participants will be able to identify at least two skills to elicit change in their team.
    3. The participants will be able to identify at least two skills to deal with resistance to change by their faculty/staff.
    4. The participants will be able to practice their new skills with cases and be given feedback on their skills (depending on size of the group).
    5. The participants will be able to identify at least two traps to avoid when eliciting change from their faculty.
