Abstract
Based on a three-year study of how educators develop authenticity in their teaching, I explore one facet of authenticity, that of critical reflection. As teachers gain experience, they move from critical reflection on the specific skills and techniques of teaching to questioning the premises of their practice and the nature of the educational system.
