Abstract
The paper examines some of the myths and realities of rural life, comparing myths that portray rural life as idyllic and pristine to some of the economic, social and psychological realities that are consistent and powerful sources of stress for many clients of social service agencies and professionals. Implications for educators, social workers and social service programs are discussed
