About
This is the future home of the Journal of Research in Rural Education, but it's not here quite yet. Please visit JRRE's official homepage for the journal.
The Journal of Research in Rural Education is a peer-reviewed, open access journal publishing original pieces of scholarly research of demonstrable relevance to rural education. JRRE was established in 1982 by the University of Maine College of Education and Human Development. In 2008, JRRE moved to the Center on Rural Education and Communities at Penn State University. In 2026, the journal transitioned to the Rural Education Center (REC) in the College of Education at Kansas State University. JRRE is edited by Karen Eppley with associate editors Jerry Johnson and Mara Tieken.
We welcome rurally salient single-study empirical investigations, historical and philosophical analyses, scoping and critical literature reviews, theoretical pieces, and policy analyses from multiple disciplinary and methodological perspectives. Book reviews and brief commentary on recently published JRRE articles are also considered. Proposals for special issues are welcomed.
The journal publishes articles on a rolling basis. JRRE is supported by Kansas State University. There is no fee to publish in JRRE. The JRRE ISSN is 1551-0670. Articles are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-NoDerivs 4.0 License (CC BY-NC-ND).
The JRRE final acceptance rate is 14%.
